Brief:

The New York Corning Glass Museum is dedicated to the art, history, and science of glass. The Museum’s campus is home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of glass, the world’s foremost library on glass, and one of the top glassworking schools in the world.

Concepts:

The brand identity aims to shift attitudes toward what glass could look like. I want to inspire people to see glass in a new light. I am enchanted by the interplay of light, color, and different materials in both natural and abstract worlds. The identity infuses artistic elements in the design to celebrate versatility, flexibility, transparency, and ambiguity of glass while exploring the infinite possibilities of its properties.

Inspirations:

I was inspired by the art glass installations appearing as a layered image and wanted to explore the sensorial relationship between color and abstract concepts of shape and space.

Logo Inspiration:

Created a pattern/design elements based on the inspirations to give the brand identity a perception of 3D depth. Then, I used it as a grid to customize the unique look of the initial logo to mirror contemporary art and personality within the Corning Glass Museum.

Colors:

Innovative combinations of these elements inspire shifting perspectives. The use of gradient colors can create new color combinations that will lend a completely unique feel to the design. It helps to indicate the inclusive and flexible brand image.

Stationery:

This was designed with visitors in mind, creating a strong visual identity by using unusual material, such as transparent plastic paper and subtle gradient colors.

Glass Installation Rendering:

I used Cinema 4D to build this logotype glass installation.

Physical Installation Making Process:

The installation was a 12” × 12” tall acrylic box adhered with transparent dichroic films. It incorporated graduated layers and created a stronger sense of depth.
